Mourning [A] BLKstarSoul, blues, gospel, punk, jazz and hip-hop are combined here to create a unique world of sound.

Mourning [A] BLKstar have mourning in their name, but if you have wistful and melancholic sounds in your ears when you hear funeral music, you think of "funeral music" here exclusively as a Western European concept. If, for example, one compares a grave-heavy funeral march by Frédéric Chopin with the lively sound of a New Orleans jazz funeral, this becomes clear. The US collective Mourning [A] BLKstar may not be from Louisiana, but from Cleveland, Ohio, but still correspond to this spirit. They span American pop culture of the last 50 years through an experimental approach to looking at the past and introducing the new, telling stories and songs from America's emerging apocalypse today. Influences that reach as far as Eddie Galle's late sixties spiritual-jazz opus Ghetto Music and the works of poet, playwright and essayist June Jordan. All of this is combined with soul, blues, gospel, punk, jazz and hip-hop to create a unique music that is comparable to SAULT and the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
